The 2nd round training workshop of EXTEND project was held in Georgian Technical University on 18-19 November 2010. Workshop was organized by association GRENA and Georgian Technical University in the frame of EXTEND project and was leaded by Dr. Kostas Samiotis, representing project coordinator. Workshop attended about 50 local scientists, as well as 2 experts from Germany and 3 from Ukraine: Dr. Andrea Loesch (GIRAF-PM e.K. - Germany), Dr. Andrey Girenko (DFKI, Germany), Dr. Vadym Yashenkov (NIP, Ukraine), Prof. Sergiy Shukayev (KPI, Ukraine), Ass. Professor Oleksandr Zakhovaiko, KPI, Ukraine).
The main role of the invited experts and training workshop itself was to assist Georgian scientists to submit their proposals in forthcoming FP7 Calls.
According to agenda the training was opened by Dr. Givi Kochoradze. The participants of the workshop was greeted by Prof. Zurab Gasitashvili, Deputy Rector of Georgian Technical University and Dr. Teodore Dolidze, Coordinator of International Affairs from the Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
The first part of the training was dedicated to presentations, made by Dr. Kostas Samiotis that aimed at the awareness rising of attendees about the project, EECA ICT cluster, FP7 and its opportunities. Presentations comprised main directions of FP7 program: Cooperation, People and Capacities.
During the second part of the day Georgian scientists representing State Universities, private companies and scientific institutions presented ideas of proposals for participation in ICT Call 7, in IRSES (International staff exchange program), in INCO ERA WIDE program, etc. (the total amount of proposed projects was about 20). According to the first round of trainings in Georgia, the ICT priorities in the country were defined and most of proposals were fitted to the mentioned priorities:
• Technology enhanced learning
• Nanoelectronics Technology
• ICT for Health
During the presentation of proposals invited foreign experts made useful remarks and comments. Experts tried to give to proposer’s recommendations and advices. The most important problem raised by proposers was lack of European partners and partner search procedure in general. Therefore they requested assistance in the solution of partner search problem. Dr. Givi Kochoradze pointed to them at IDEALIST project in which partner search is one of the main tools.
The second day of the workshop was devoted to proposals preparation, assistance and self assessment and rating of proposals.
